Debt and Spending (Opp Josh) Phone
Congressman Brecheen believes that our national debt is one of the greatest threats facing our country. Economic security is national security. Our continual debt loading is pushing our nation towards a fiscal collision that must be averted before it’s too late. Our national debt currently stands at $31.5 trillion. Every man, woman, and newborn child in America now owes $94,000 as their share of that national debt. This debt is a tax on every child’s future that they will only pay off by having a standard of living that is inferior to their parents. Economists are predicting that Medicare will be insolvent—meaning full benefits will not be able to be paid out starting in 2028, while Social Security will be insolvent by 2033. When you add the unfunded liabilities of Social Security, Medicare, what we owe to veterans and federal employees through pensions, and other unfunded liabilities, we face a staggering $120 trillion total in unfunded liabilities. And then there’s the issue of annual interest on our debt. According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), interest payments per year on our debt are projected to triple over the next decade to $1.4 trillion, which was our total gross national debt in 1983. Congressman Brecheen is committed to helping solve our debt crisis so we can keep our Republic for our kids and grandkids. |
